Passar vetlla
“It is a more arduous task to honor the memory of anonymous beings than that of famous people. The historical construction is consecrated to the memory of those who have no name.”
Walter Benjamin
“Passar vetlla” recreates a family table in which my grandparent Antonio Domingo Gispert (Riudoms, 1927) tells family stories and memories. This installation reinterprets the act of “passar vetlla”: a tradition that used to be done in catalan villages and that consisted of visiting the neighbors and family members to tell stories. At the same time, it seeks to vindicate memory as a subjective and creative act through which we bond and create common imaginaries.
